Abour Dr. Miriam Zuroff

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

I received my Ph.D. from Long Island University, in clinical psychology in 1999 after extensive training in the inpatient and outpatient settings, working with children, adolescents and adults. In a closely supervised teaching  environment,  I helped patients struggling with a wide array of issues.  Post my doctorate, I  initially worked in an elementary school setting.  After a rewarding experience in treating children with multiple issues,  I turned my focus to private practice work.  For the past twelve years I have been working  with adults, both individuals and couples in a confidential, private practice setting.  I have a subspecialty treating women who are suffering from postpartum depression and related issues.

THE THERAPY PROCESS

In a non-judgemental atmoshpere, you will begin a process of tremendous personal growth.  Therapy is a  time to focus on you and your life, a place to become more self-aware and  self-understanding.  Through the process you will gain greater insight into the patterns of behaviors and thoughts that are recurring internally and in your relationships with others. Those that you wish to change will be a focus in this supportive, encouraging environment. The cause of both inter and intra unhealthy  patterns of behavior will be examined and through the therapy process help decrease the symptoms that accompany them.  At the same time your strengths will be uncovered and we will explore ways to cultivate those positive personality traits and help make them flourish.

OUTCOME

Whether therapy will be short term or long term in nature, you can expect symptom relief while gaining deeper insights into who you are and who you want to be. At the conclusion of individual therapy, the process of self - discovery will  help nurture more healthy interactions with loved ones, coworkers , and  friends.  You will  have gained  tools to handle so many of life events, even when confronted with more challenging emotional situations.  In couples therapy the goal would be to open lines of communication, a tool which will be priceless especially  in trying times.  Postpartum women can expect to learn coping skills to handle motherhood, manage their symptoms while maintaining meaningful relationships with their significant other.
